Bridget, I like the idea of how religion has caused violence in many regions. I think that will develop into a really interesting essay, however, like Brendan, I agree that narrowing down on one religion like Judaism or Islam may assist your research.
I believe that your historical question will lead to a very interesting essay! The only advice I could give is to narrow down the religion. Writing about how every different religion has caused violence could be very confusing. I would pick one or two religions to discuss.
